A Fun Way to do Chest Compressions When Doing CPR!

by William Soliman of The CPR Place ( 22-Jul-2010 )

One of the hardest things to do during CPR is staying at the right rate of compression. "Do I go a little faster or a little slower?"

Well, the correct rate of compression according to the American Heart Association is 100 compressions per minute. About a little over one per second. Unless you have a stopwatch handy, it is very difficult to estimate this.

Growing up during the 70's, I loved to sit in my older brothers car and listen to the Bee Gees hits. One of my favorite songs was Staying Alive (ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin alive, stayin alive)!

Ironically enough, the beat of that same song is exactly 100 compressions per minute (pretty appropriate too-Stayin Alive):)

So the next time you think that you may be going too fast or too slow, just sing that song to yourself and you will stay at the correct rate and enjoy a fun way to do chest compressions when doing CPR!
