Buying Custom Closet Doors

Your bedroom should be your space to relax, to rest, and to meditate. It should be a peaceful refuge from the rest of your life and the world. If you enjoy designing and decorating, you have probably thought about colors, bedding, side tables, and draperies. But have you thought about what the perfect closet door would be? If not, perhaps it is time to install some custom closet doors to finish off your perfect bedroom.

Closets, of course, are not just found in your bedroom. Perhaps you have hallway closets, or closets in other parts of your home that you would like to put some custom closet doors on. You can find the perfect door for you style and your needs. Before you purchase or plan your doors, however, there are a few things you should consider to help you choose the best door. You will need to take into account your available space and the purpose of the door. There are several types of closet doors out there, so knowing these two things can help you narrow your possibilities.

Here are some of the most popular types of closet doors.

Bi-fold doors are nice because they allow complete access to inside the closet. Bi-fold doors bend in the middle, in a sort of accordion fashion, and are pushed to the side of the door frame. These doors can look very elegant when a beautiful, natural wood is used. They are nice to use in places where you do not want a door being swung opened and closed, such as in a narrow hallway.

Bypass doors are doors that slide past each other. They move from side to side on tracks, overlapping the other door. With a bypass door, you can only view half of the closet at a time, but again, there are no swinging doors to get in the way if you have limited space.

A louvered door has slats that allow for ventilation and air circulation within the closet. Because of the ventilation, louvered doors help prevent a stuffy, stinky closet. These types of doors can be good for certain types of clothing and footwear, but they do not prevent insects from flying in, so you must be careful with what you store behind louvered doors.

When you are choosing which type of door to use, another very important consideration is the color. You want your doors to match the rest of your home. With custom closet doors, however, this is not a problem, because you get to design exactly what you want, in whatever color you want.
