Doing a facial at home is a great way to pamper your skin and save a little bit of money. Especially during the winter, when the weather cools and indoor heating turns on, skin has a tendency to react poorly to the climate changes. Dry patches, pallid areas and fine lines begin to look like complete full wrinkles. Facials are great way to fight the changes in your skin and can help you relax after a long day.

To begin an at-home facial make sure you have all of the ingredients you need. You can find a number of different recipes for at-home facials on the Internet that are all made with item readily available in your home. Making sure that you have all the ingredients and everything else that you need before you begin will help make your facial experience more relaxing. Rushing to find something at the last minute can break the calm the facial is helping you feel.

Turn on relaxing music and make sure you have a place to lie down and relax while your facial is working.

Next clean your face. You can use your regular facial cleanser and warm water. You can also clean your face with a warmed mixture of 1-2 tablespoons of whole milk and olive oil. This mixture helps clean and soother most types of dry skin. Use small circular movements to massage the cleanser into your skin. If you were wearing any makeup make sure it is all washed off before beginning the facial. Rinse your skin clean.

Exfoliating your skin is the next step in your at-home facial. This will help remove the dead skin cells that make your skin look dull. Make sure and exfoliate your neck and upper chest as well. These areas show aging and blemishes just as easily as your face.

After exfoliating, steam your face to open the pores and prepares the skin for a deep cleaning. Be careful to not burn your face while you are steaming. Keep your face near the steam for 5-15, and then pat your face dry.

Once your pores are open, your skin is ready for the mask. When looking for a recipe on the Internet look for one that is specifically for your skin type. Different masks help skin in different ways. Spread the mask over your entire face, neck and chest avoiding the eye areas. Relax for about 10 minutes or until the mask is nearly dry before rinsing it off.

To finish off your at-home facial experience moisturize your skin and apply sun protection if you will be going out.
