Homeschooling Help and Advice

by John Benedict of The Upbeat Conservative ( 20-Mar-2013 )

For parents trying to raise their children with strong values, a love of learning and free from the constant bullying endemic to many public schools, homeschooling is an excellent option. It is generally legalized throughout the US but subject to very specific state by state requirements that parents should check into to make sure that both their decision to homeschool and how they homeschool is in full compliance with the law of the United States and their State. Homeschooling is beneficial not only because of the control parents often retain over what content their children are exposed to, but because they can, within legal limits, control the pace of the learning, adjusting it for children who learn faster and slowing it down in subjects where a child may struggle. The Upbeat Conservative generally supports the idea of passing legislation allowing parents more freedom to determine their child's own educational needs.

Possible resources for parents to help them get started with homeschooling or find legal assistance concerning homeschooling are as follows (for more information, www.upbeatconservative.com has this information with more direct links):

Just click on the link to go to the Home School Legal Defense Association.  If that doesn't work, copy and past into your web browser.

Catholic Homeschool Support.  Copy and past into web browser if link does not worki.

A Protestant organization founded by James Dobson, this page may be helpful.  Copy and paste into web browser if link does not work.

http://www.californiahomeschool.net/  Copy and paste these links into web browser if they do not immiediately work.
This resource is for those in California, since setting up a home school is more time consuming there due to recent laws that essentially make parents who desire to homeschool jump through more hoops, i.e. by making them register as an actual school (don't be intimidated, it's not that difficult and this site should help with step-by-step instructions to get you started.  One of the links the site will take you to in order to help you file an affidavit needed to form your school is http://www3.cde.ca.gov (this will take you right to the online form, but there are other steps that you will want to research, possibly with help from californiahomeschool.net).
