NDT inspections ensure Engineering Integrity

Accidents happen each and every day and while the majority of accidents involving vehicles and modes of transportation may be the fault of the operator there are instances when mechanical failure, structural integrity and whether disturbances are to blame for causing a collision or bringing down an airplane. In The NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) is a government organization that investigates and determines the reasons why plane trains and automobiles sometimes fail to operate correctly and end up wrecked or destroyed. While there is an agency that has the responsibility to discover the cause of an accident there are also people working hard to ensure the safe operation of equipment and vehicles and which is committed to testing the safety and integrity of each component that is being put into service in many different fields.

Non Destructive Testing or NDT inspections provide the type of strength and endurance tests that push metals and alloys to their limit and deliver the compliance reports that indicate what types of stresses and exposure planes, boats, trains and cars can undergo before they reach their breaking point. Without destroying their test subjects the individuals that are called upon to examine and put a vehicle through its paces are helping to make many industries safer for everyone. Hull integrity that can stand up to tremendous pressure is one of the key indicators that are tested by the NDT companies that are equipped to work on site, in house or at a manufacturing facility.

Through the NDT training courses a company that is building aircraft engines can ensure that their products are not going to fail under adverse conditions and that the finished aircraft will be able to perform as expected. But it is not just the transportation industries that are benefitting from the expertise of the testing of their alloys and velocities. Amusement parks all around the country are in need of the NDT inspections that provide the testing and safety for roller coasters and rides that are open to the public. Once more testing the G-forces that are used in the designs of rides and the integrity of the track as well as the car that is going to be ridden in by the people that are looking for a thrill ride, the inspectors ensure that every component of an amusement ride is going to stand up to years of use and be safe for everyone that is coming through the front gates of the park. While it is the responsibility of the NTSB to investigate the reasons for an accident it is up to the engineers who design the vehicles to undergo the intense NDT inspections that pass the amusements, planes boats, cars and trains off for use by people that trust they will be safe aboard the various vehicles.
