Planning A Wedding

by Angela Entzminger of J & A Designs Photography ( 4-Feb-2010 )

The perfect wedding means different things to different people. Some want a small, intimate gathering with only a few close friends and relatives. Others want a gigantic bash that would make the J.Lo/Mark Anthony wedding look trivial in comparison. No matter what size the, all weddings require the same elements:

  • Invitations
  • Best man, maid of honor, bridesmaids and groomsmen
  • Caterer
  • Videographer
  • Photographer
  • Florist
  • DJ or band
  • Officiator for the wedding ceremony
  • Wedding location
  • Wedding reception location
  • Honeymoon spot

Sending out invitations

Invitations can be simple cards purchased at Hallmark, something you make yourself or crazy affairs that cost hundreds of dollars. No matter what type of invitations you choose, they should be sent out at least two months in advance in order to let people plan to attend your occasion. Include a list of hotels or motels where they can stay as well as directions to the wedding location and reception hall.

Choosing the Grooms, Bridesmaids and Guests

Unless you are participating in a romantic comedy or sitcom, go with close friends and family to include in the wedding party and as your guests.

Hiring the Right People

Attending a bridal expo, word of mouth, and scouring the web can help you find a great caterer, videographer, photographer, florist, DJ and pastor, priest of justice of the peace. Ultimately, an individual should go with their gut, hiring someone that both themselves and their fiancée trust, respect and can afford.

Choosing the Wedding Location and Reception Area

Those of a religious persuasion can ask their pastor or priest to officiate the wedding at their place of worship. If that house of worship is unavailable, getting married on a beach, at a cultural destination or in someone's home, are also options. Usually the wedding place and reception must be reserved at least six months in advance.

Honeymoon

Planning the honeymoon is one of the best parts of the wedding. Deciding where to go is completely up to the new couple. Whether you choose exotic tropical islands, snow-capped peaks, tiny cities, anyplace is fair game for a great honeymoon. Different cruise companies, travel agencies, and hotels offer honeymoon packages that are worth exploring.

Wedding planning takes a great deal of time, but with proper planning one can choose great individuals to help them with their wedding, whether they be WI, MN or Iowa wedding photographers, caterers, and the like.
