Preferred bodyshop or not

One of the most asked questions we get is "do I have to take my vehicle to the body shop my insurance company recommends, or tells me to go to?"The easy answer is no,you can take your car to any shop of your choice. The shop you choose will negotiate the hourly rate and other incidentals with your insurance company, you shouldn't have to pay anything extra out of your pocket to take the vehicle to the shop of your choice.Your insurance company might tell you it will cost you more,or they won't warranty the job, almost all reputable shops warranty most aspects of the job for as long as you own the car.

Is the insurance companies preferred shop any better than the shop of your choice? Not neccasarily.Typicaly preferred shops give a lower rate to some of the insurance companies that send work their way.Insurance companies are in the business of making money if they can pay as little as possible to a preferred shop, send as many customers to that preferred shop to make it worth their while, that's the plan. The problem is not all shops can keep the quality up in those mass production circumstances, although some are quite good at it.

So in the end, it's best to ask around to family and friends, and find a shop that several people have been happy with. The fact is, you can take your car to the shop of your choice, preferred or not
