Caring for your baby starts while he or she is still in the womb. Prenatal care is the act of providing a healthy lifestyle for your child before he or she is born through healthy lifestyle choices. If you can give your child every opportunity to develop in a healthy environment prior to birth, chances of a healthy childhood are greatly increased. Follow the advice given below to ensure that your baby is born with every opportunity for a healthy childhood.

1. Prenatal Vitamins

Prenatal vitamins are a great way to ensure that you and your baby get the nourishment that is necessary for the growth and development of a healthy body. Prenatal vitamins offer supplements that aren't always met with a regular diet in the form of a convenient vitamin. Babies require extra care as they grow and women need to make sure their bodies are up to that task. Prenatal vitamins are often required to ensure that the proper growth and development of occurs as it should.

2. Exercise

Pregnant women often eschew exercise because they fear the jostling and jarring movements often associated with exercise will damage the baby. While it is true that high impact exercises should be replaced with lower impact ones, especially as you close in on your birth date, regular, low impact exercise is definitely helpful for both you and your baby. In fact, studies have shown that mothers who regularly exercise while pregnant increase their chance of having a healthy child. Remember, you shouldn't exercise like you are training for a marathon while you are pregnant, that is not your goal. Your goal is to keep your body fit, so don't put too much strain on yourself.

3. Eat Healthy

This may seem like common sense, but it becomes increasingly important when you have a baby in your body who relies on the food you eat for sustenance. If you are constantly eating junk food, your baby will not get the nourishment he or she requires for a healthy growth cycle. Conversely, mothers should stay away from harmful substances while pregnant, such as drugs and alcohol.

The advice given above may seem like common sense, but a little friendly reminder may be the difference between a healthy and an unhealthy baby. If you can keep your body healthy and in shape while pregnant, chances are your baby will be healthy when born. The combination of prenatal vitamins, regular exercise, and eating healthy will ensure that your baby is given every opportunity to grow and develop while in the womb so that he or she can be born into the world healthy.
