Seniors living alone are used to caring for themselves some with assistance from their families, many without any help. What Visting Angels finds is most people do quite well until something happens; someone gets sick, falls, has a stroke, can no longer drive or suffers from depression.
When any of these things occur and they all can, people living alone can be isolated, shut off and perhaps decline even further. Visiting Angels is a franchise that I bought because I saw my parents struggle when my mother became ill and my father was caring for her. My sister was trying to work, help her own family, be a grandparent and still make sure my parents were OK too. What happened was my mother got worse ended up in a nursing home when my father couldn't care for her and my sister was exhausted and broke. None of us wants this type of resolution, which is why I invested in Visiting Angels in Towson, Maryland - so other people's parents could have decent care and remain in their own home.
Because we have excellent, experienced, licensed caregivers, senior citizens, the elderly and parents and grand parents now have an alternative to the dreadful nursing home dilemma. We have seen clients thrive when they know their caregivers will be there to help them fix lunch, make dinner, do the laundry, take them to the doctors or to the senior center. We do all that and more - we don't take the place of your family, we supplement what the family can do and where there is no family, we can fill-in and become companions and friends.
There is always an alternative - our theme is: we're really "Angels on Call, we're always there."
Linda Sherman, Director Visiting Angels, Towson, Maryland. We serve clients in Maryland's Baltimore City and Baltimore County as well as parts of Harford County. If we can't help you we'll find someone who can.
