As we travel into the festive days of summer, we begin to shed more than just our clothes. Countless women opt out of wearing their makeup during the summer months for reasons like overly shiny skin, the heat, transferring onto clothes, melting, sweating, and swimming. One more important reason for a bare face is that the skin tones deepen as we soak in the sun rendering your foundation color too light. For those who have this dilemma there is a solution and it is called a tinted moisturizer or as I refer to it, “vacation makeup”.

Tinted moisturizers are a very sheer texture that does not provide coverage but simply evens out skin tone to provide a natural and healthy glow.

Using a tint reduces steps and can replace numerous products in your current skincare or makeup regime. When shopping for a tinted moisturizer or any makeup, you want to follow specific guidelines that will lead you to a makeup that is healthy for your skin. Look for product lines that are free of oils, parabens and fragrances. In addition, all complexion products should be hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic, meaning they do not clog or irritate. You can also uncover animal cruelty-free, vegan and gluten free lines as well. We are heading into a healthy makeup age where we want treatment in our color. Many lines are now offering cosmetics that are considered “healthy makeup”, where it is not just free of certain ingredients, but also has treatment benefits built in to improve skin while you wear it. All you need to do is ask and you shall receive. This is our face we are talking about here! One caveat: tints do not provide moderate to full coverage, so you can always pair with a concealer or foundation for a formal fuller look.
