The reality of remodeling

by Douglas I. Gearheard of Blue Creek Construction, Inc. ( 16-Jul-2010 )

To Remodel or not, that is the Question? I have spent over twenty years in the remodel industry both as a Contractor and a Carpenter and the first thing that I hear from a potential clients mouth is, " We hope that this will really increase the value of our home". And the answer is, emphatically yes! Will in improve the monetary value? In time, usually in two to four years, but you must be patient as remodeling can be expensive so depending on market conditions and as they say in the Real Estate business, Location, location, location. It might take some time to realize a profit on your property depending on how much invested and the need to move or relocate.

And that is the key word, " Invested " because you are investing. In your family in the quality of life that you will experience with the improvements, and the sense of comfort that sometimes only your home can give you. Remodeling is an experience for everyone in your family and it can be good and bad at the same time, and it will be and you must be prepared for that. The kids love it and the parents hate it. But as you start to see your dreams come true the whole process comes together and then one day it's done and the joy of experiencing your new home or business, in your same wonderful location is your's.

Communication is key and and most importantly let the Contractor you hire do the job, as long as you see progress. Expect it to cost more then you think because you will want to make changes right away, but stick with your original thought and then go about your life and soon it will be over and everyone will be happy.

This is my experience of building over 170 additions I hope the you will take it into consideration and contact me in regard to your project.

Sincerely,

Douglas I. Gearheard (President)
