New businesses are popping up all along the U.S. 301 corridor.

There are three new places to shop.

Cupcake Dream, LLC.’s address could be a little misleading. The brochure puts the new business at 6671 Ward Blvd, But the little pink palace of sweets is actually on U.S. 301 beside Best Rentals.

Walking inside the small bakery is like entering a dream as the store name says.

Everything is a soft, pretty shade of pink.

The decorations are dainty and delicate as a little girl’s playhouse.

And all of the baked goods are prepared from scratch.

Dindy Perry has only been open for four weeks, and she hopes people will come and try some of their handmade desserts.

“We make specialty cakes, cupcakes, sugar-decorated cookies, regular cupcakes and cake pops,” Perry said.

Tempting anyone who comes in through a display are cupcake flavors like sweet vanilla, chocolate coconut, dreamy carrot, mocha and vanilla chocolate.

Then there are the more exotic flavors such as key lime, pina colada, s’mores, tres leches and dulce de leche.

If you want ice cream to go along with your cake, they sell Hershey’s hand-dipped ice cream.

Perry also features a homemade ice cream each week, which is usually a tropical flavor, she said.

If having sweet treats makes you feel guilty, Perry serves fruit salad on the weekends.

Moses Faison has an automotive business right next door where he specializes in tire services and changes engines, transmissions and offers tune ups. He said he has been there for more than five years and he is glad to have Perry as a neighbor.

“I’m glad they are here,” Faison said as he ordered a banana split for his afternoon treat. “Having this business here gives me something to look forward to. It’s a place that was closed and now it’s open. It’s good for everybody’s business to have a good place open.”

Faison said he has been over several times in the month the sweet shop has been open.

“When I get my sweet tooth, I come over here,” Faison said with a laugh. “It’s not far to walk to (so) I come over and get my sweet tooth fixed.”

Perry said she has lived in Wilson now for 10 years and loves watching the Food Network show “Cupcake Wars.”

About four years ago, her aunt came from Venezuela and started making cakes.

Perry received her license to bake in her home and sees this shop as a natural growth in her business.
