Flying Island Music and Film was created by Hawaiian Airlines Captain W.C. Jakeman in 1979 while living and flying in the Hawaiian Islands. Jakeman retired from the airlines officially in 1994, prior to moving to Lexington Kentucky to live on a thoroughbred farm. He and his wife purchased Paris Hills Farm in 1995. That same summer they became the proud owners of a little mare named Bonnie's Poker, who eventually became the dam of the 1997 Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm. Jimmy Buffett picked up and covered "The Natives are Restless" a song that holds a registered copyright published by Flying Island Music and Film. Buffett discovered the song from the unauthorized Don Tiki cover floating around the late night bars and clubs of Waikiki. Buffet used the song again in a musical "Escape to Margaretville" at the La Jolla Playhouse. The musical eventually appeared on Broadway but not before the song was cut from the production. Flying Island LLC is the parent company for several business ventures and the products that came out of those ventures. Alpha Boost Juice began as a private label for Paris Hills Farm in 1999. That product has evolved into a commercial label for 2 equine health food products manufactured by Flying Island LLC, available only online and to small tack and feed stores. Horse Greens, and Beets&Greens were developed by K.C. Jakeman for her stabled horses to replace lost grazing nutrients. The sport horse industry has long been an interest for K.C. Jakeman, co-owner and managing member of Flying Island LLC. In 2005, Jakeman secured the publishing rights to all three X-Factor pedigree books written by Marianna Haun. K.C. Jakeman wrote and published the 4th book in that series releasing it in the fall of 2018, "A Tale of Two Hearts, The X-Factor from the Beginning". Now both retired, Captain Jakeman and K.C. Jakeman manage the remaining assets of Flying Island LLC. K.C. Jakeman is a graphics artist, sport horse enthusiast, equine appraiser, writer, author and parental advocate for their son, William Jakeman, III. The Captain is our patriarch, our partner and our patron saint of adventure. We love and adore our fearless pirate Captain.
