Business Description
Illiana Ag Alliance is a Regional Local Food Hub.
We are also small farmers who use natural, environmentally friendly, sustainable, value-added growing standards.
Besides the products that we grow ourselves, we distribute source identified, locally grown fresh produce offerings as locally as possible under the Illiana Ag Alliance brand. In addition, we assist in the distribution of these offerings between the Local Food Hubs, ensuring our commitment to meet consumer demands for fresh, healthy, local fresh produce.
Our first priority in sourcing locally grown fresh produce is from local Farmers Markets. We are now developing a plan in which local Farmers Markets are responsible, and compensated, for the aggregation of locally grown produce from local small farmers, gardeners, and market vendors.
All wholesale orders, invoicing, and payments are processed online, whenever it is possible.
In addition to our current primary target market of rural and small grocery stores, we intend to begin to distribute these fresh, healthy, and locally grown products among restaurants, hospitals, and schools in the near future.
We encourage, and will soon be able to provide incentive for Certified Organic production. The general idea is an annual tiered system in which a larger percentage of each local Farmers Market hub will be required to provide a larger percentage of Organic products.
We will soon begin education farmers and gardeners about sustainable farming methods, such as hoophouse production, crop rotation, cover crops, and beneficial insects and plants.
We keep waste to a minimum through ServSafe or Food Safety and Sanitation certified food processing, canning, freezing, baking, packaging, and distributing.
When a viable market is not present, we donate our perishable products to food pantries, jails, and prisons throughout the region.
We aim to increase the bottom-line of regional farms and farmers, as well as provide low-cost, value-added, source-identified, fresh, healthy, and locally grown produce to the end consumer.
