Business Description

Integrated Treatment & Transition Services (ITTSF) is a 501 (c)(3) non profit consumer-operated mental health service organization that is administratively controlled and operated by mental health professionals and consumers. Service focus emphasizes self-help as the operational approach. Consumer-operated mental health services has four basic types of functions: mutual support, community building, providing services, and advocacy. ITTSF assumes all four of these functions: Mutual Support: People with common life experiences have a unique capacity to help each other because they share a deep understanding that might not exist in other relationships. The willingness to offer a hand up to someone who is considering a new way of life is the very basis of who the staff is and what they do. It is wholeheartedly believed that recovery from addiction and mental illness is possible because staff have lived it. Community Building: Consumer-operated mental health services offer opportunities for participants/clients to develop new social and interpersonal networks, to experience membership in an inclusive and culture accepting community, to think about themselves in new ways, and to learn better ways to handle problems. Providing Services: In-patient and/or out-patient centers; peer counseling; assistance with basic needs or benefits; assistance with housing, employment or education; linkage to services and resources; social and recreational opportunities; arts and expression; structured support groups; crisis response and respite information and education; and outreach to community and institutions. For many participants/clients, services augment their traditional mental health service providers, sometimes serving as an alternative to traditional services. Advocacy: Advocacy and social action to promote system change and social justice has been a core element of the consumer self-help movement from its inception. Consumers participate at local, state and federal levels to help plan services, shape policy, and promote change.
