GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
A high-profile international adventure through hundreds of islands and 24 countries to establish a new Guinness World Record for the most countries visited on a personal watercraft, by PWC rider Hal Sartelle. That alone would be reason enough to make it an awesome undertaking; However, Hal and others are going to help people along each of the 24 countries included in The SALT Tour. Check it out and see how you can participate in this international endeavor. We are the best! As part of Hal?s research preparations he will carry extra fuel in three five gallon gas cans. His largest sea crossing is 109 mi) from the Dominican Republic to the Turks and Cacaos. (109m/7mpg=16 gallons the two gallons shy of the 18 gallon capacity of the SEADOO, but not enough for a safe reserve so 15 extra gallons provides a generous reserve of fuel allowing for dealing with adverse sea conditions which will diminish mpg?s). This preparation goes beyond the Coast guard recommendations of having and extra 1/3 reserve fuel. After having verified the trip details with the US Coast Guard Hal will carry these items in addition to those already required for a PWC. These extra items include a GPS system, compass, paper charts, a PLB (personal locator beacon), mirror, flashlight, glow stick, phone, flares, VHF radio and last not least, importantly plenty of water. This allows for duplication of navigation and communication as Hal learned they say in the Coast Guard? ?Two is One and One is None.? While underway we can all watch along with video footage and track Hal?s trip progress will also be available live via a SPOT GPS messenger monitor.
