Have Another Child or Aid Kenyan Orphans?

Fortunately, we live in a society where having children can be a calculated decision. Provided that a couple is properly educated and responsible, they can have long conversations and about whether to have a child, and how they plan to care for it with very small chance for an unplanned pregnancy. By looking at the number of Kenyan orphans, it is clear that not everybody in the world has this opportunity. People have a biological impulse to reproduce, and spread their genetic code. On top of that, many popular religions consider procreation an important and sacred thing. Because of these reasons, most couples will desire to have their own children.

As rewarding as parenting can be, children also have associated costs. Their parents must spend money to provide them with food, medicine, and other types of care. On top of that, each new child has an impact on the earth's environment. Many scientists believe the earth is already overpopulated with humans, and that it cannot sustain the current population, and certainly won't be able to sustain the current projected growth of the population.

Some propose that we enforce a two child law, and similar laws are already in place in some parts of the world, but such a law would receive plenty of opposition in the United States. Some feel it violates religious principles, and others believe that low birth rates will lead to the collapse of our society.

Whether it is a law or not, couples should think hard before having another child, and consider the implications and alternatives. One alternative is to adopt. Adoption provides you with another child to care for, but it is a child that is already born so you will not be contributing to overpopulation. On top of that, you are now caring for a child who might not have had proper care otherwise. There are plenty of children and infants struggling to survive in the world, so giving one of them a better life can be a great blessing for both of you.

Another alternative to adopting a child is to use that money you would've used in caring for that child to help impoverished children around the world. There are plenty of charities set up to help individuals provide aid for Kenyan orphans and other groups of struggling children. It is important to find a charity where most if not all of the money actually reaches the children, so do your research beforehand.
