SUBFLOORING FOR TILE

by JOSEPH M CALDERONE of JMC Home Renovations ( 3-Apr-2014 )

THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE FOR A QUALITY FLOOR TILE INSTALL IS PREP.WE LIKE TO USE DUROCK OVER EXISTING SUBFLOOR.WE LOCATE JOIST AND MARK LOCATIONS FOR SECURE SCREWING.WE APPLY A LAYER OF MODIFIED MORTAR TO EXISTING FLOOR AND INSTALL DUROCK TO THE FLOOR WE SECURE THE PERIMETER WITH SCREWS TO HOLD AND MARK THE LOCATION OF JOIST FOR THE REMAINING SCREWS .WE DRAW LINES TO MAKE SURE WE ARE SCREWING IN THE PROPER POSITION.WE USE A DECK SCREW NOT DRYWALL SCREW.THEY ARE STRONGER AND MADE FOR THIS APPLICATION .WE FINISH THIS PROCEDURE WITH THE SPACING OF SCREWS APPROX 6-8" APART .WE CONTINUE TILL FLOOR IS COMPLETE.AND LET DRY OVERNITE.WHAT WE END UP IS A SOLID SUBFLOOR THAT WILL BE PERFECT FOR TILE OR MARBLE INSTALL.:)
