Taste is a very personal thing especially in art. It is difficult for one person to choose art for another person to hang in their house. Anytime you visit a museum, or gallery, you are aware of this truth. Two people who share similar taste in decorating, color, and style, will often differ when it comes to art prints. If you are lucky you agree on style or genres like impressionistic, modern, or western art prints. The more you agree on genres the easier time you will have picking a piece of art together. This is a good exercise for any relationship. It gets a little trickier when buying art for someone else.
Be Careful Buying Art as a Gift
If you are buying art as a gift, it is best to get the other peoples input. If you are purchasing art as a wedding gift let the couple choose their own prints. The old rule of thumb is, “ never buy something for someone else that they have to hang on their wall without their approval”. This will avoid embarrassment, and awkwardness on both sides Taste is too personal and art is too expensive. Beautifully framed prints do make fantastic wedding gifts; just make sure the couple has approved your choice. A gift certificate for a print shop or online gallery solves all these problems. It is a little easier to choose art for yourself.
Art Enhances your Home
Unique and beautiful art makes a home interesting and appealing. Spend time in galleries and print stores to hone in your taste. What style is your home? Does your home reflect a modern look, basic colors, and clean lines? Or is your home more ecliptic and busy? Everyone has a style that feels right to him or her. If you like the simple life, the rugged outdoors, the nostalgia of horses, cowboys, and prairies, then western art prints may be the style for you. Buying gifts for someone else and buying for your home are two different procedures.
Take your Time when Choosing Art
If you are buying for your home, take your significant other, and select a piece of art you both enjoy. If you are buying as a gift purchase a gift certificate or take the other person with you to make a selection. The world of art is vast, taste vary and so do opinions. Choose carefully what you like best whether it is modern art, classical, impressionistic, or western art prints.
