Perennial Los Feliz lounge keeps 50's supper-club glamour alive for a faithful hipster crowd.
Yes, the Dresden Restaurant is famous for movies like Swingers, That Thing You Do with Tom Hanks and a host of others that have chosen it for location shoots. It's been around since 1964 and still carries itself with that air of the 60s. At the bar, blue glasses are seen before patrons as they sip the house classic Blood and Sand--a space age margarita--and of course the ubiquitous martinis and Manhattans. Glasses of wine are popular, but the best choice is a bottle from the Dresden's 33-bin wine list. There is only standing room late at night, but there's never with a cover charge. It is the Hollywood place to be and be seen. It's not a super expensive place like Perino's or Chasen's were, but more like the famous Brown Derby. First rate, yet affordable for the average person.

I arrived before the lounge act started and was able to enjoy conversation and my glass of house wine. Once the act started, it was so loud, we had to leave the room. The musicians seemed fine, they played well, but they... (more)

Built in 1964, this Los Feliz institution was going strong long before it was immortalized in "Swingers" and gave Vince Vaughn a career. The grand dining room is a kitschy wonder of high ceilings, white booths,... (more)

...complete with white leather booths and vintage chandeliers. Excellent service hinting at Hollywood's glory days. The rack of lamb is almost on par with Commander's Palace in New Orleans and Laduree, Paris.... (more)

Three star entertainment. Less than one star food. Absolutely disgusting and not cheap either. Stay away from the trout. Full of bones and smothered in grease and nasty sauce. (more)

I used to live on the same street as the Dresden, so it was a great place to just walk to with a friend when we decided to go out for lunch. There are a quite a few good restaurants in that four block span of Vermont where the... (more)
