We all know what electricians are, but do we really know what they do? They have dangerous jobs that most of us would prefer to not tackle. These brave workers maintain and install electrical systems that are in businesses, factories and even our homes. If you are wanting to become a St. Louis electrician, there is little schooling, but you need to complete and apprenticeship and become licensed to begin working in the field. This is a tough job, but there are many great benefits to becoming an electrician and starting your career in this field.

All of the work that entails what electricians do is very daunting. They must be familiar with all of the sketches and prints before they can begin work. Installing wiring and lighting systems is a big part of the job. They must inspect devices and test them out. Wiring and circuits that are damaged are also repaired by electricians. One main rule for these workers is that they must follow state regulations which are all based on the National electric Code. This is a hard and sometimes scary job but somebody has to do it.

Most electricians are contracted and some are self employed. The job site can either be outside, in homes, construction sites or in factories. The job requires a lot of lifting heavy items and constantly standing or kneeling which can be very tiresome and have much wear and tear on the body. One negative aspect is that they do have a higher rate of injury due to burns and shocks. They can reduce these risks if they follow safety guidelines that are put in place for them. Depending how much training and school is completed, the pay can fluctuate drastically, especially if you are part of a company or if you are independently contracted. An apprenticeship is the best way to see if this right for you. Hands on training and working in the field will let you know if this is the right path that you should walk down.
