Don't be afraid of government regulators

Too often we view government workers as inefficient roadblocks to our business. The reality is much different.
Most actually want to help, but are often overworked and not to mention underpaid. My recommendation, make friends with those who regulate you. You may just find that they can really be helpful to you in navigating the regulatory requirements.
Even if you have gotten off on the wrong foot, it's not too late to start over. Don't be afraid to admit that you could use their help and advice. In my experience, you'll find a partner in the regulatory community who is more than willing to give you some guidance. And don't forget to thank them for their help. Maybe even write a letter to their supervisor to let them know how helpful they were.
