A gourd is not just a bird-house anymore. Whether you grow or buy your own gourds, each gourd has its own story to tell or piece that it wants to be. Once you wait up to 9 months or more for the gourd to dry out from the heavy, water-filled vessel into a lightweight, moldy, and wood-hardened gourd, you are ready to create your unique masterpiece. Gourds come in so many shapes and sizes that your imagination can run the gamut of ideas that will excite and actually hook you into wanting to create more and more pieces of your own design. After scrubbing the layer of moldy skin on the outside of the gourd with Dawn dishwashing soap and water, you are ready to design your piece. If you cut into the gourd, you will need to scrape the seeds and inner lining and then sand the inside smooth. Now the fun begins. A dry, clean gourd can be cut, painted, stained, carved on, woodburned into, sanded, or just about anything you want to do with it. It can last for years and years and bring hours of enjoyment and satisfaction in creating your own artwork. Or, you can just purchase one of our designs--yea, no mess or fuss!
