The last few months' grim economic news about housing & credit has had a negative impact on most aspects of our economy, but I like to take a more optimistic stance. Letting economic worries paralyze you will do nothing to enhance your bank account, your life style or the value of your property. You need a roof over your head, so don't let yours develop holes.
Sagging property values may have you feeling down, but losing interest in your home ( which is a major investment ) will cost you in the long run in improvement and maintenance costs. As long as you're living in your home, it should be a place you enjoy. That doesn't mean you have to run out and put $100,000 into your home or property, but you can tackle plenty of practical projects with a limited budget.
Any home new or old offers endless opportunities for improvement. Almost any project that involves painting, wall papering or refinishing will be inexpensive and provide an immediate visual impact. By working on your walls, trim or floors, your rooms will feel renovated. And by upgrading your plumbing fixtures or your lighting fixtures, you'll make your house more attractive and save you energy, water and, in some cases, money. Adding insulation and weather-proofing your windows and doors is another way to save energy and enhance the comfort and appearance of your home.
To survive a market downturn it is important to keep up appearances. Walking through your local home improvement center will I'm sure spark your creativity and renew your enthusiam. Remember, doing nothing is a sure forecast for rain on your parade, and maybe through your leaky roof!
