My favorite time of year is when the leaves being to fall from the trees and autumn turns to winter. I love when the air is crisp and nipping at your nose. I enjoy the sweet aroma of fresh baked cookies and the evergreen scent of Christmas trees. It is that time of year when you can hear Christmas carols being sung by carolers in the snow. You listen to the well-known melodies while enjoying the warmth of hot cocoa. As you cuddle up by the fireside you read Christmas stories of old and silently dream of your Christmas wish list. While strolling through town catching flakes of freshly fallen snow you admire the beautiful commercial holiday decorations that adorn the city streets.
I love walking through the mall during the holiday season and seeing all of the Christmas décor. There is an enormous Christmas tree that stands in the center for all to see. It is decorated with colorful balls, assorted ornaments and bright shining lights. Each column is wrapped with garland and bows and banners with season greetings hang from the ceiling. During this time of year, Santa’s workshop is the main attraction for shoppers young and old. Wee little ones sit upon Santa’s knee and wish for toys they hope to appear under their Christmas tree. Stores are filled with customers who are shopping for that one special gift while others wait to wrap them with beautifully colored paper, bows and curly ribbons.
As you drive through your cozy little town you view elaborate Christmas displays through frosted window panes. Town square has its own light display full of animated reindeer, Santa on his sleigh, elves carrying presents and a holiday train chugging along the tracks. Every lamp post is decorated with a Christmas wreath made of garland, berries, pinecones and bells. Large red and gold bows and jingle bells hang from the doors of each downtown store while colorful Christmas lights illuminate every tree branch to bring light to each winter night.
Christmas time is such a joyous time of year. It is a time to remember the birth of Christ and to reanalyze what is truly important in life. With the use of commercial holiday decorations we are able to create the spirit of the season and spread some Christmas cheer. Anywhere you look during this time of year you are sure to find a touch of the Christmas spirit. Let the joy of this holiday season grow within your heart and try to create a little of your own winter magic.
