Provo is a unique town. If all the college students and MTC missionaries moved out, it would be a ghost town, but instead it is a thriving, hustling Mecca for those in their 20s. The MTC missionaries add a unique element to Provo with thousands of clean-cut, well dressed, groomed, 18- to 25-year-olds coming and going constantly. These residents are here for only a short time before they flow to the four corners of the globe. The duration of their stay has changed recently with the addition of 18-year-old boys and 19- and 20-year-old girls entering the MTC. Three to nine weeks was the norm, but today it is one to four weeks. How do you get all those students and missionaries to and from the airport in Salt Lake City? There are Provo bus services that offer transportation, or you can call your third cousin if you live out of state. Doesn’t everyone have a third cousin in Provo?
Third Cousins versus Bus Service
It seems like everyone knows at least one person that lives in Provo, but maybe not. Even if you do have cousins or friends, they may be at work or school during the time you need transportation. Salt Lake City is an hour’s drive each direction, so it is somewhat of an imposition to expect a distant relative or family friend to take half their day to fetch you from the airport. If you use a Provo bus service, you aren’t an inconvenience to anyone. You call ahead, make reservation, and arrive at your destination on time. Isn’t part of moving away from home learning independence and self-reliance? The buses are big, with room for all that luggage you are going to take with you to South Africa, Australia, or Boise, Idaho. For students, the bus will pick you up at the airport and deliver you to Provo. It is easy, economical, fast, and reliable.
The Provo MTC and Universities
Provo is a unique town. BYU houses almost 30,000 students and so does UVU. Add that to the 2,000 or more missionaries, Stevens-Henager College, University of Phoenix in Provo, and a smattering of tech schools, and you have a plethora of people coming and going. People in their 20s are the soup du jour for this town. Whether you are coming or going to Provo, check out the Provo bus and hope the third cousin invites you to dinner.
