In this Day of Economic Hardship, Many Times the Deciding Factor for a Projects Completion is Based on the Cost...Rather than the Qualifications of the Individual Completing the Project.
I am a Firm Believer that You Should "Shop" for the Best Price, Yet Most People Lose Sight of the Realization that: "You get what you are Paying for".
Every Since the Declination of this Countries Economy and the Un-Employment Rate Shot Off the Charts, The Hardest Hit Seemingly was the "Trades". The Reason that I Say that, is Anyone Who had Changed a Light bulb or Painted a Room in Their Home, Automatically Self Assumed the Role of "Contractor" or "Handyman".
Which in the End...has Caused a Conundrum, in Making it Difficult for Those that are Actually Skilled to Perform the Work, Actually Perform the Work. The Reason being, is that People that are Seeking a Project to be Completed are now Using "Craigslist" in an Attempt to Find Skilled Labor and Pay a mere fraction of What it Atypically would Cost.
Thereby Resulting in People who are Dissatisfied by the Quality of Work that the Non-Licensed Individuals are Performing.
Look at it this Way, If you are Seeking to have a "Door" Installed in Your Home and the Budget You have Set is: $75.00
If the Door Material Cost is: $68.00, What Type of "Labor" do You Expect to Receive for $7.00?
The Answer is Obvious, the Individual that is Expected to do this Project is NOT going to Allow his "Labor" to Suffer from that Budget...Thereby, Leaving ONLY the Materials to Suffer and ending up with Poor Quality Materials that Will NOT last.
That is "Why" I am a Firm Advocate to Educate People that "Before Making any Decision regarding Repairs...Make an Informed Decision"!
* Check Out Whom You are Thinking about Using...Before You Hire them!
* Ask for References.
* Ask to See "Before & After" Photo's.
* Check Their Licensure.
* If it Sounds too Good to be True...It Is!
The Realization Here is Simply Based on Two Words:
Common Sense
NOT...
Cents!
As a General Rule of Thumb, The Formula that I Use for Projects is Fair and Simple:
I Charge Whatever the Materials are = M
X 2 for Residential, X 3 for Commercial
M + MM = Residential Cost
M + MMM = Commercial Cost
The Formula Above Represents What I Charge, without Any Special or Custom Work and as I Shop All the Competitors within the Tri-County Area...I am Still 20 - 50% Cheaper on Average.
Thank-You Sincerely.
Good Luck!
