Tips when Using Movers

There are many different reasons that you could be moving. Maybe you have outgrown your home and have found one in another neighborhood that fits your growing family better. Maybe your spouse got a new job across the country or you have found some things that you would rather have in storage. Whatever the reason for your move, there will always be some stress that comes with it. You don’t want your stuff to be ruined, broken or stolen and how are you supposed to immediately trust movers in San Antonio that you have never used before? Here are some tips worth looking at that can help ease your worries with your upcoming move.

Filling Your Dresser Drawers

This is not a good idea. There tends to be some movement in the truck during transport and if the drawers of your dressers or desks are full the chances are much higher that something will topple over and just fall out. You wouldn’t want your valuables placed in those drawers to become dislodged or thrown around in the truck. This could cause damage to your things as well as damage to the other boxes. It’s better to leave the drawers empty and held shut by wrapping tape around the entire piece of furniture. That way the drawers will remain locked in place and aren’t free to move around causing damage you don’t want.

Packing Jewelry and Valuables

It is best to pack your most important items and just keep them with you. You don’t want to risk losing them or just misplacing them among things that you might not look through for quite a while. You also wouldn’t want to tempt any passerby to grab something small and expensive and slip them into their pocket hoping that you won’t notice. Your valuable things are just too important to trust in the hands of someone you don’t know. Better to just keep them all together and close to you at all times during the move.

Protecting Furniture

One of the most common forms of damage is dings in your furniture. It’s no wonder that with all of those boxes and different things piled together closely in a moving truck that you will see some scuffs and scratches when you unpack everything. Not everything can be taken care of by the movers in San Antonio during the transport of your things even though they are trying their best. Make sure to wrap blankets or plastic sheeting around your furniture to ensure their protection.
