Waiting Room Video: Improving the Dental Experience

Going to the dentist for many is rarely a pleasurable visit.  I, for one, don’t really like someone digging through my teeth and gums while I’m trying to make small talk with the hygienist.  Yet I make these appointments because I know my dental health is important and that if I go regularly, I can avoid the majorly painful visits such as cavity fillings and root canals, which are usually required due to avoiding the dentist.  I recently read in the Huffington Post that tooth infection, which most likely comes from bad tooth care, can lead to a whole host of medical problems such as heart attacks and stroke.  Needless to say, a trip to the dentist is necessary and inevitable.

Still, I don’t like being kept for long in the waiting room because of the anticipation of my teeth being pushed, prodded, and poked, no matter the quality of the dentist.  That’s why dentists and receptionists try to keep their waiting room experience as pleasant as possible.  One of their new dental marketing ideas is a waiting room video.   This isn’t a bad alternative to the usual news broadcasts and soap reruns they usually have playing on their TV screens.  Rather, the concept of a waiting room video is to provide programming that revolves around the dentist you are visiting.  Waiting room advertising allows patients to how this dental experience is superior to others.

These videos usually provide calming and soothing instrumental music without being too flat or boring.  They can play along in the background as you read a magazine or they can serve as your sole source of entertainment.  Helpful captions and pictures demonstrate the dentist’s credentials and services, along with biographies and fun facts about the staff. Waiting room videos may even provide testimonials from satisfied patients.  Often, these videos give before and after photos, demonstrating the actual effects of the dental treatments.  They also advertise certain specials and discounts that come from the dental clinic.  After watching a good amount of a waiting room video, the patients can see the benefits of coming not only to any dental clinic, but visiting that particular dentist as well.

These dental advertising videos of course not only benefit the visiting patients, but can serve any practicing dentist as well.  Whether he or she is up-and-coming or has been established for a long time, these specially made videos are an excellent way to promote his or her work.  Knowledge is power, and allowing patients to know they are getting quality services will definitely motivate them to come again.  And even though many are like me and try to avoid dental visits, they will be more likely to appreciate the experience and return for more services.
