Designer dogs are the rage for pets today. Breeders can select genes to create new and fabulous dog breeds. The labradoodle, tea cup poodle, Schnoodle (Schnauzer and poodle cross) Chusky (German Shepherd Dog, Husky, and Chow Chow) are examples of these. Some dogs are bred for their novelty traits like the tiny purse dogs, others dogs are bred to prevent problems that pure bred dogs often have. Recently, it was reported in the New York Times that, “Given the roughly 350 inherited disorders littering the dog genome, crossing two purebreds and expanding their gene pools can be a phenomenally good idea”. Other dog breeders raise dogs within the same breed to accentuate a favorable trait like White German Shepherd puppies. Emphasis is placed on color more than traits or size.
Designer Dogs are Bred as Pets
Besides being cute and cuddly puppies, designer dogs are usually bred as companions and pets. They are bred for lovability and cuteness, not necessarily for brains or work. What do you get when you mix a Chihuahua with a Dachshund? You get a Chiweenie, a Dachsihuahua, or a Doxiwawa. Dog breeding is nothing new; breeders have been breeding hunting and work dogs for years deliberately for particular work characteristics. These are not referred to as designer dogs but crossbreds. Some dogs are crossbred or interbred within their own breeds to accentuate a certain trait or coloring. White German Shepherds puppies are an example of these.
White Shepherds
German Shepherds can all be traced back to the same grandfather, Horand von Grafrath. This dog lived prior to 1886 in Europe. Dogs were bred extensively for color coats some carried Grief’s recessive gene for white coat. The breeders tried to create white German Shepherds. Ironically, the Nazis during World War II disqualified white coat German Shepherds from the German Shepherd Dog Clubs in 1933. This stayed the norm for many years even after the end of the war. It wasn’t until 1971. Breeders and enthusiasts have been at odds with the AKC for years as they have tried to bring recognition to separate White Canadian Shepherds from White German Shepherds.
Loveable and Intelligent
White German Shepherds puppies are among the most loyal, intelligent, poised, alert, and eager to serve their people. They are open, friendly and joyful, active and easy to train. They are a perfect working companion and lovable family dog. Disney’s movie Bolt portrays an animated a White Shepherd that displays these positive genes. While not technically a designer dog, they certainly have been designed for a lovable, family friendly, intelligent addition to any family.
