If the New Journey Books and Center for Self-Actualization and Enlightenment was a person, I am certain that it would take on the very persona of its visionary founder Robert Blond. The Center occupies a distinctly modest space in the Indian Tree Shopping Center in Arvada, Colorado. Like its founder, on the outside it presents a humble face to the world. Indeed, like Robert Blond, inside there are treasure troves of wisdom, vision and divine consciousness waiting to be discovered and explored.
I say that Robert was a visionary because he created the Self Actualization and Enlightenment Center in Wichita, Kansas in 1979. Self-Actualization? Enlightenment? In Kansas? Really? Jimmy Carter was President and the Iran Hostage Crisis was headline news. In the midst of turmoil and poisonous venom saturating the media and our national awareness, this man dared to set out on a mission to support others on a journey of education, self-actualization and enlightenment. Really? Yes, really! Robert had a vision of helping people to grow spiritually and expand their consciousness to a sense of love and oneness long before it became fashionable.
That center was expanded into Colorado in 1986. At that time, he added Journey Books and Gifts, which was a metaphysical store that was designed to be (and still is) the fundraising aspect of the Center. Throughout the tumultuous decades since the center opened, it has remained a beacon of serenity and wisdom to Colorado, as has Robert.
Recently, Robert has stepped down from his role as Executive Director and placed the reins in the capable hands of Kenna Koester and the Center’s Board of Directors so that he may enjoy being “semi-retired”. While Kenna oversees the day to day operations of the center, Robert is still very much present.
